TU BBS 4th Year Project Work Report: Format, Chapters and Common Rejections

Project work is the final piece of the TU BBS programme, and it catches many students off guard. It is not a thesis, so the depth expected is lower — but the format is prescribed tightly, and campuses send reports back for structural problems long before anyone reads your analysis. Understanding what the format actually demands saves weeks.

Choose a topic your campus has data for

The best BBS project topics are small, local and measurable: financial performance of a specific bank branch over five years, customer satisfaction at a particular retail chain in your city, working capital management of one listed company. Avoid national-level topics — you will not get the data, and your supervisor knows it. Before you commit, ask where the numbers will come from: published annual reports, NEPSE disclosures, or a questionnaire you can realistically distribute to 60–100 respondents.

The standard three-chapter structure

Chapter 1 — Introduction: background, statement of the problem, objectives, significance, limitations and the structure of the report.
Chapter 2 — Results and Analysis: data presentation in tables and figures, analysis of each, and your major findings.
Chapter 3 — Summary and Conclusion: a summary of what you did, conclusions drawn from the findings, and practical recommendations.
Front pages: title page, declaration, supervisor's recommendation, endorsement, acknowledgements, table of contents, list of tables, list of figures and abbreviations.
References and appendices: the questionnaire, raw data tables and any supporting documents.

Note what is missing: there is no separate literature review chapter and no methodology chapter in most campus formats. A short review of related studies and your method belong inside Chapter 1. Students who import the thesis structure into a project work report get sent back on day one.

Tables and figures are where marks are won

Chapter 2 is the heart of the report, and it is judged on presentation as much as content. Every table needs a number, a title above it and the source below it. Every figure needs a number and a caption. Crucially, a table is not analysis — after each one, write two or three sentences saying what the numbers show, whether the trend is rising or falling, and why that might be. A report full of tables with no interpretation reads as data entry, not project work.

Common reasons reports come back

Objectives listed in Chapter 1 that are never answered in Chapter 2 — check each objective against a specific table.
Conclusions in Chapter 3 that introduce new information not present in the findings.
Recommendations that are generic advice rather than actions the studied organisation could take.
Inconsistent table numbering, missing source lines, or a list of tables that does not match the page numbers.
Reference style switching between APA and a numbered style within the same list.
Missing or unsigned supervisor recommendation and endorsement pages.

Work backwards from the submission date

Data collection always takes longer than planned, and binding takes a day you did not budget for. Set your own deadline two weeks before the campus deadline: proposal approved, then data collected, then Chapter 2 drafted, then front pages and formatting last. Formatting is the step students leave to the final night, and it is the step that causes rejection.
