Pokhara University Thesis Proposal Format: Section Order, Length and What Gets Rejected

The proposal is the gate. Until it is approved you cannot collect data, and every week it spends in revision comes out of the time you had for the study itself. Students searching for the Pokhara University thesis proposal format are usually trying to avoid exactly that delay — so the first thing worth saying is which document you should actually be working from.

Which guideline binds you

Pokhara University is an affiliating university, and most students are enrolled at an affiliated college rather than at the central campus at Lekhnath. The proposal format that binds you is the one issued by your college's programme office for your batch, refined by whatever your assigned supervisor asks for on top of it. A general PU template found online is not that document, and neither is a senior's copy from two batches ago.

Ask the programme office for the current issued version in writing, and ask your supervisor early whether they add anything to it. Supervisors routinely do — a preferred chapter convention, a stricter view on how objectives are worded, an internal deadline ahead of the department's. The section order most PU formats use

Title page in the layout your college specifies — proposal title, the statement of partial fulfilment, your name and roll number, your college and its PU affiliation, your supervisor's name, and the date.
Table of contents, with page numbers matching the body.
Background of the study — the context, narrowing from the general area to your specific problem.
Statement of the problem — what is actually wrong or unknown, stated as a problem rather than a topic.
Research questions, stated explicitly and numbered.
Objectives — one general objective and a small number of specific ones, each answerable by your method.
Significance or rationale of the study — who benefits from the answer and how.
Literature review — focused on the gap your study fills, not a survey of the field.
Conceptual or theoretical framework, with the variables and their proposed relationships.
Research methodology — design, population, sample size and sampling technique, data collection instrument and procedure, and the analysis plan.
Limitations and delimitations of the study.
Chapter plan or organisation of the study.
References in the style your college specifies — APA in most PU business programmes.
Appendices — the questionnaire or interview guide, and any permission letter.

Colleges differ on where the framework sits and whether limitations come before or after methodology. Follow the order in your issued guideline; the content is the same either way.

Objectives are where proposals fail

More PU proposals are sent back over objectives than over anything else, and the cause is nearly always the same: the objectives promise something the methodology cannot deliver. An objective beginning 'to determine the impact of' commits you to establishing causation, which a one-off descriptive survey cannot do. 'To examine the relationship between' commits you to correlation, which it can.

Read each specific objective and ask which instrument, which question and which statistical test answers it. If you cannot name all three, the objective is aspiration rather than plan. Objectives, research questions and the analysis plan should map onto each other one-to-one — a supervisor checks that alignment first, because everything downstream depends on it.

Methodology: the parts that get queried

Sample size stated with the calculation, not asserted. A round number with no working behind it is the most frequent single query.
Sampling technique named precisely — convenience, purposive, stratified random — and justified against your population, not just labelled.
The instrument described and attached. A questionnaire referred to but not appended holds the proposal up.
Where the instrument is adapted from published work, say so and cite it; where it is your own, say how you will pilot and validate it.
The analysis plan naming actual tests rather than 'data will be analysed using SPSS' — which tells your supervisor nothing about whether the design works.

Length, formatting and referencing

PU proposals are short documents by design and the range in circulation is wide — commonly somewhere between fifteen and thirty pages depending on the programme. Check your guideline. Where it gives a range, write to the middle: a proposal padded to the upper limit reads as padding, and the literature review is invariably where the padding goes.

Standard formatting conventions apply — 12 point body text, 1.5 spacing, justified, a wider left binding margin, consistent heading levels, tables numbered by chapter with captions above and figures with captions below. Referencing is APA in most PU business programmes, applied consistently in both the in-text citations and the reference list.

What gets a proposal sent back

A topic too broad to finish in the time available — the most common first-review outcome.
Objectives that do not match the methodology, or research questions the instrument cannot answer.
A sample size with no calculation shown.
A literature review organised study by study, ending without an identified gap.
A conceptual framework containing variables the literature review never introduced.
The questionnaire missing from the appendices.
