The thesis defense feels unpredictable, but panels at TU and KU are testing two things: is this work genuinely yours, and do you understand the decisions inside it? Both are answerable with preparation, because the questions come from your own document.
Write out answers, then rehearse them aloud in the language you'll defend in. If your program allows either English or Nepali, practise your key answers in both — switching under pressure is harder than it sounds.
External examiners in Nepal habitually open the analysis chapter and point at a table: "Explain this." You should be able to say what every number in your own tables means — especially your sample size, response rate, Cronbach's alpha, R² and each hypothesis result. If a supervisor or statistician helped with the analysis, make sure you understand every step well enough to explain it alone; the panel will notice if you can't.
Most departments expect a 10–15 minute presentation: introduction and objectives, literature summary, methodology, key findings (your best tables and charts, simplified), conclusions and recommendations. One idea per slide, big text, no paragraphs. Rehearse with a timer — running long eats into your own answer time.
When an examiner challenges a weakness, agree where they're right and show you understand the implication: "Yes, the sample was limited to Kathmandu, so the findings may not generalise to rural banks — that's noted in my limitations." This lands far better than defending everything. And if you don't know an answer, reason aloud from what you did find rather than bluffing — panels forgive gaps, not pretence.
Bring printed copies of your thesis and slides, arrive early enough to test the projector, and keep a copy of your key tables in hand. Nerves are normal — panels expect them. What they're looking for is a student who knows their own work, and after months on this thesis, that's you.
