"Thesis" is the biggest academic word a Nepali student meets, and also the least explained. In Nepali, a thesis is शोध निबन्ध — a long, formal research document you write under a supervisor and defend before examiners. At TU, Purbanchal, KU and the other universities it is usually the final requirement of a bachelor or master's degree: the piece of work that proves you can plan a study, collect evidence and argue a conclusion on your own. This guide explains what a thesis is, how it differs from the smaller work you already know, and what is inside one.
A thesis is your own research, written up in a fixed academic structure, over one or two semesters, under a supervisor, and defended orally. Two ideas matter in that sentence. First, "your own research": unlike an assignment, where you answer a question the teacher set, a thesis starts with a question you choose and justify. Second, "defended": after the written document is accepted, you present it to a committee and answer their questions in a viva or defence. Passing both parts is what earns the degree requirement.
Students mix these up and plan the wrong amount of time. An assignment is a short marked task from a course — days of work. A project (final-year project, project work) is a supervised build or study, common in BCA, BEI, BBA and BSc CSIT, usually shorter and more practical than a thesis. A research paper is a short article written for a journal or conference, sometimes drawn from a thesis after it is done. A thesis is the longest and most formal of the four: in Nepali master's programmes it commonly runs 60 to 120 pages, follows the university's format guidelines chapter by chapter, and is examined by an external expert.
The format rules are university-specific and they change, so always work from your own department's current guidelines rather than a senior's old PDF. The structure above is the common skeleton; your campus decides the details.

If you are at the proposal stage and the word still feels abstract, Assignment Nepal can help you narrow a topic, structure the chapters and plan the timeline with your supervisor's expectations in mind. Message us on WhatsApp at +977 9768768340.
Tell us what you need checked and when it is due. Your document is checked without being stored in any student-paper repository, so the check never counts against your real submission. The reports come back with what each match means, not just a percentage.
