Nepali university subjects are rarely marked on a single paper. A semester subject typically splits into internal assessment and a final examination — commonly 20% internal and 80% final at Tribhuvan University, with different splits at Kathmandu University, Pokhara University and Purbanchal University, and heavier practical components in engineering and health science subjects.
Because those parts carry different weights, averaging your scores gives the wrong answer. Enter each component with its score and its weight and this calculator does the weighted arithmetic properly, whether your weights cover the whole subject or only what has been marked so far.
Multiply each score by its weight, add the products, then divide by the total weight. For a subject with 20% internal and 80% final, scoring 85 internally and 62 in the final gives (85 × 20 + 62 × 80) ÷ 100 = 66.6%.
The plain average of 85 and 62 is 73.5% — nearly seven points higher, and comfortably enough to mislead you about your standing. The heavier the final exam, the more a plain average flatters you, which is exactly the situation in most TU semester subjects.
Take the weights from your subject's official syllabus or the marks distribution on the question paper, not from memory or from a senior's advice. Semester schemes have changed at several Nepali universities in recent years, and faculties within one university often differ.
Where a component is subdivided — internal assessment made up of attendance, assignments and a terminal test — either enter each part with its own share, or work out the internal total first and enter it once at its full weight. Both approaches give the same result.
Engineering, health science and IT subjects commonly carry separate practical or viva marks with their own weight, and sometimes their own pass requirement. Enter each as its own row so the weighting is right.
Be aware that many Nepali programmes require a minimum mark in the theory paper, or in the practical, independently of your total — a rule a weighted average cannot capture. Check your programme regulations: passing on aggregate while failing a component is a real and common outcome.
If you enter only what has been marked, the calculator divides by the weight you supplied rather than by 100. The answer tells you your average across the portion assessed so far — a genuine snapshot, but not a prediction.

The letter shown here follows the common A-to-F scheme. Nepali universities differ in where they place the boundaries, and semester programmes report a grade point alongside the letter while annual programmes still often report divisions — distinction, first division, second division.
Check your own university's grading scheme before reading much into the letter, particularly near a boundary. The percentage transfers between systems; the letter and the division do not.
